Common Questions About Pine 9 Fishing Rod Holsters — Answered on Video
Got a question before you buy? You're not alone. These are the most common questions anglers ask about Pine 9 rod holsters — answered straight from the source. From reel compatibility to hip configuration, watch the answers before you order so you know exactly what you're getting.
Does it work with Bait Casters?
Baitcasting reels sit differently on a rod than spinning reels — the handle arm extends outward, which makes some anglers wonder if it'll clear the holster channel. Short answer: yes, both the JettyHawk and Ambie work with baitcasters. Watch to see exactly how a baitcasting rod seats and draws.
Compatible with: baitcasting reels, casting rods, standard straight-handle grips up to 1 5/8" (JettyHawk) or 1 3/8" (Ambie).
Does it work with Surf Rods?
Surf rods are longer, heavier, and have wider grip diameters than standard freshwater rods. The answer depends on which model you're using. The JettyHawk was specifically engineered to handle surf rod grip diameters up to 1 5/8" — the Ambie is not designed for surf use. Watch to see the JettyHawk with a surf rod setup in action.
For surf fishing, use the JettyHawk. It supports grip diameters up to 1 5/8" and is built with marine-grade, saltwater-resistant polymer. The Ambie is designed for freshwater rods only.
Does it work with Fly Rods?
Fly rods are a common question — and the answer is conditional. Both the JettyHawk and Ambie can work with fly rods, but only if there is a minimum of 3 inches of hand grip behind the reel seat. Rods without sufficient grip behind the reel will not seat correctly in either holster. Watch this video to see how to measure your fly rod before ordering.
Fly rod compatibility tip: measure the distance between your reel seat and the bottom of your grip. If you have 3 inches or more of handle behind the reel, both the JettyHawk and Ambie will work. If not, the rod will not seat securely.
Does you have a left hip?
The JettyHawk is a fixed right-hip holster — it is not reversible. The Ambie, however, is fully reversible and can be configured for either left or right hip carry without any tools. Watch to see exactly how the left-to-right swap works on the Ambie.
Left-hip carry is available on the Ambie only. The JettyHawk is right-hip carry only, optimized for maximum stability with heavier rods.
